Pretty Little Liars... Should friends keep secrets from each other?

I'm not a liar but I'm a firm believer that some secrets are okay. Not everyone should know everything about you and apparently Aria (Lucy Hale) and the girls of Pretty little Liars agree. (and makes for a REALLY good show!)

One year ago, Alison, the Queen Bee of their group, disappeared and the girls swore they'd never tell what really happened that night. They thought their secrets would bond them together, but just the opposite is true. Then again, who's to say what the truth is in Rosewood. It seems everyone in town is lying about something.

My favorite secret of the show...Aria's secret relationship with her super hot English teacher Ezra. My question is why weren't there hot teachers like that when I was in school?

Scandal in Scotland [Book Review]

New York Times bestselling author Karen Hawkins spins an unforgettable tale of a captivating beauty with a secret, a dashing sea captain on a treacherous mission—and the priceless artifact that seals their destiny.
A DESPERATE BEAUTY Despite fame and countless admirers, actress Marcail Beauchamp has never forgotten William Hurst, the audacious seafarer she once loved . . . and lost. Now, forced by a mysterious blackmailer who threatens her family, she must steal an ancient onyx box from the one man she's vowed never to see again.

BOLD ADVENTURER To save his brother from a ruthless abductor, William must deliver the artifact as ransom. He's stunned when Marcail, more lovely than ever, suddenly appears on his ship. But when she drugs him and steals the box, his fury knows no bounds.

THE TREASURE EVERYONE WANTS William pursues Marcail, but too late: she has already delivered the box. The estranged lovers realize they must work together—both to regain the artifact that could mean life or death to his family and to destroy the mysterious blackmailer's power over her family. Thus begins a high-stakes quest through the reaches of Scotland, a quest that stirs up long-forgotten memories and an unquenchable passion. . . .

Mandie's Thoughts - Give me a hot Scot any day and I'm happy. Apparently Karen Hawkins writes a lot about hot Scots! This was a great historical romance, perfect for lying on the beach with. This is the second book in the series and I will be picking up the first and the third. My favorite part of the book is that William and Marcail were lovers before and quickly reconnect so you aren't waiting half the book with nothing but tension.
GREAT read!!

Post Natal Weightloss Supplement Giveaway

I recently received a bottle of postnatal weight loss supplement to try. I know what you are thinking... umm Mandie, you are REALLY post natal since your little one is almost 5. Yes, I know but I wanted to try it any way. I am still taking it and have lost 6lbs. (For those of you that don't know me IRL, I'm not overweight, I just needed to little kick start to lose a few and have a few more to lose).

I had been scared to go on a diet when I was nursing and medical experts say that for a new mom, the most important time to lose pregnancy weight is the six months following childbirth.
This postnatal weight loss supplement allows you to get that kick start to help you lose the baby weight AND it promotes lactation! (if you are already lactating, it did nothing for me here :)

Since less body fat = more energy, it will help your body be more efficient when taking care of your precious little one. The Postpartum support and NATURAL weight loss for moms is a 100% herbal formula that contains no caffeine or stimulants which can be hazardous to newborns. It also has the added herbal lactation support with white kidney bean extract, Glucomannan, Fenugreek, and Marshmellow extract.

Now that I've told you how fabulous it should check them out of Face book and here is the contest! One lucky winner will receive a bottle of Postnatal Weightloss Supplement.

Me and Bobby McGee [Book Review]

From the back of the book...

"Prepare to embark on a thrilling comedic adventure seen through the booze-blurred eyes of Keesey Cypher, a government-trained killer with an ill-fated abundance of classified memories who has since resigned himself to a regrettable existence, sipping away his tainted past. It is this powerful thirst coupled with Cypher's hunger for games of chance that leads him to New Orleans' coziest dive-bar the day after Fat Tuesday where one night of seeming misfortune leads to a frighteningly funny reality of subversive politics, corporate greed, backwards logic, and star (double)-crossed romance.

In this gripping social satire of modern times, Me and Bobby McGee pokes fun at the inane absurdities ingrained in our society, proving that freedom is truly subjective and karma is not just a philosophy, but a fate that is unwavering. And as an added bonus, for the careful reader and music fan, there are subtle connections throughout the novel to the classic folk song that inspired its title. In a world of terrible truths and impending doom, find out what happens when the only man with the power to stop it... decides not to."

Amanda's Thoughts:

This book was really hard to read. I found myself frequently rolling my eyes. It's not that Chad Coenson is a bad writer, its just that it's not my kind of story. I think there are people who would really enjoy the story (as evidenced by the great Amazon reviews), but for me, it was just "too much".

The main character was too horny, and drinks too much. The F-word and other cuss words were used too much... 3 times more than necessary. It's not that I'm opposed to using the F-word either. I think it's a great word, because it has its place. If you use it too often, it loses its effectiveness. That's kind of how I felt with this book. It was "too much", and lost its effectiveness with me.

A Conflict of Interest [Book Review]

[Book Review]

Alex Miller is a criminal defense attorney and, at thirty-five, the youngest partner in one of the most powerful law firms in New York City. He's a man at the top of his game with the life he's always dreamed of, complete with a loving wife who remains patient with his long hours and high-stake cases, and a beautiful young daughter.

At his father's funeral, Alex meets Michael Ohlig -- a mysterious and nearly mythic figure in Miller family history -- who presents Alex with a surprising request: to represent him in a high profile criminal investigation. . .an alleged brokerage scam that has lost hundreds of millions of dollars for investors. Wealthy beyond words, Ohlig insists he's done nothing wrong, and Alex, who's experienced enough to know that clients always lie, uncharacteristically believes him.

But as the facts come out, shocking secrets are revealed that threaten everything Alex believes in -- about the law, his family, and himself. But his desperate need for the truth propels Alex to unscrupulous depths, and to confront a past defined by deception and a future in jeopardy. . . with the realization that one false step could destroy everything Alex holds dear.

In an electrifying debut the likes of which legal thriller fans have not seen since Scott Turow's pulse-pounding thriller Presumed Innocent, Adam Mitzner tells a stunning story of suspense that heralds a bold new voice in fiction.

Amanda's Thoughts - I couldn't put this book down. The characters were complex and likeable. The book was fast paced and if you love a thriller you will want this book! Adam Mitzner, the author who is also an attorney living in New York City, was very impressive. I can't wait to read more from him.

How Huge the Night Book Review

A teenager's choices in the shadow of World War II will change him forever...

For fifteen-year-old Julien Losier, life will never be the same. His family has left his childhood home in Paris and relocated to southern France as Hitler begins to threaten their country. But Julien doesn't want to run. He doesn't want to huddle around the radio at night, waiting to hear news through buzzing static. Julien doesn't want to wait.
Angry, frustrated, and itching to do something, Julien finds a battle everywhere he turns.
His family opens their home to a Jewish boy needing refuge. His country falls to the Nazis. And in the new life they all are forced to make for themselves in the aftermath, Julien meets Nina... a young Austrian who has fled her country by her father's dying command. Nina also is Jewish, and in grave danger. Julien suddenly realizes the enormity of having someone's life or death depend on... him.

How Huge the Night is a novel by Heather and Lydia Munn, inspired by the true story of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, the town in the south of France that became a refuge for Jews during World War II. A compelling story that will keep both teens and adults turning the pages, How Huge the Night explores both the darkness of the World War II experience in Europe and its moments of piercing light.

About the authors
Growing up in the savannahs of northern Brazil as a missionary kid, Lydia Munn did five years of homeschooling because there was no school where her family lived. There were no public libraries either, but she read every book she could get her hands on. As she grew up this led naturally to her choice of an English major at Wheaton College. Her original plan to teach English to high school students went through some changes along the way, becoming in the end a lifelong love of teaching the Bible to both adults and young people as a missionary in France. She and her husband Jim have two children, their son Robin and their daughter Heather.

Heather Munn was born in Northern Ireland of American parents and grew up in the south of France. She decided to be a writer at the age of five when her mother read her Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, but worried that she couldn't write about her childhood since she didn't remember it. Her favorite time of day was after supper when the family would gather and her father would read them a chapter from a novel. She went to French school until her teens, and grew up hearing the story of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, only an hour's drive away. She now lives in rural Illinois with her husband Paul, where they offer free spiritual retreats to people coming out of homelessness and addiction. She enjoys wandering in the woods, writing, gardening, and splitting wood
                                                       Questions for a Book Club

Mandie's Thoughts -  It's a young adult historical fiction but I really enjoyed it. (& I'm not a teen)
Beautifully written based on actual facts from a Southern French perspective from a difficult time in our history. The characters have a way of tugging at your heart and the best part is you get to see the true Christianity put into action. God can do with people who will stand up and fight against the wrongs of the world.
This is one I'm keeping for my children to read when they get a little older.
